What is the Golf 9/12 initiative?

More than just a golf tournament

Golf 9/12 is a forward looking, non-profit organization established to rekindle the collective spirit of unity that followed the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history. Golf 9/12 encourages people to take part in an annual day of unity by simultaneously playing golf at their local club/course during the week of Septermber 12th. Golfers will be connected by a live mobile scoring and social networkingmobile application (provided by Golf 9/12).

A $12 donation is added to each participant’s greens fee to help fund educational programs at the Pentagon Memorial, the 911 Memorial and Flight 93 Memorial. Proceeds will also benefit the Armed Forces Foundation, the Wounded Warriors, local first responders near each club/course and Friends of Freedom Charities.

The vision of Golf 9/12

To establish a day of unity, using Golf 9/12 as the cornerstone, when we pause once a year on September 12 to reconnect with the feeling of unity we had on September 12, 2001 and the days that followed. Golf 9/12 establishes a forward-looking legacy that will help future generations uphold values that were so clearly evident following the worst terrorist attacks in U.S. history. Golf 9/12 is a united commitment to spawn engagements that preserve our freedom for generations to come.

Why golf

Golf is a universal sport; it is played by people around the world and requires values like integrity and sportsmanship. Most importantly, golf fosters camaraderie among all who play. As Nelson Mandela so famously said, "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does."

Using technology to unite

Through Golf 9/12’s custom mobile application, you will be able to view live scoring, real time leader boards, shot sharing, and challenge friends across the country in a matter of seconds. Everyone will unite and engage, using technology to "link up on the links".

Who is involved

Golfers who play at their local golf clubs/courses are the core of Golf 9/12. Corporations and golf clubs are encouraged to host Golf 9/12 events across the country.

Many Golf 9/12 Champions have already united through the vision of Golf 9/12, including Buck Kernan, Marino, Frost, Love, Stuckey, Mize, Glover, Lang, Walls, Immelman, Leadbetter, Immelman, Beuerlein, Damon, Eruzione, Doggett, Woodland, Points, Tryon, McCarthy, Jansen, Jansen, Holtz, Williams, Buttle, and more are joining as the event draws closer.
